We found an unfinished garden around a recently renovated house in the hills with beautiful sea views.
The area to be redesigned was arranged on three different levels, enclosed by walls and chain-link fencing that had lost tension and had badly fixed posts. On the first level, at street level, there was a paved area with no possibility of creating in-ground plant beds, so all vegetation would need to go in pots. There was no water or electrical installation.
On the second level, in a U-shape, the pool was the main feature.
Going down the stairs, there was a rectangular bed attached to the wall with no vegetation. The wall had chain-link fencing covered with heather.
On the opposite side there was another bed with vegetation that could not be reused and chain-link fencing rising directly from the ground.
On the third level there was a rectangular area filled with compacted soil, chain-link fencing with damaged anchors, and shrubs on the left-hand side. There was no access staircase.

At the intermediate level, the proposal included outdoor porcelain paving combined with beds finished in pure white marble stones; one side of the house would feature citrus trees and the other a privacy screen of Eugenia shrubs. All fencing had to be renewed, and we proposed integrating white stone gabions around the pool shower, to be covered with jasmine.
On the lower level, we proposed an open area with artificial grass and gravel.
The result is a modern and minimalist garden: elegant, functional, and full of character. We used hardscape and planting elements to provide privacy from neighbours and the street while still allowing the clients to enjoy the spectacular sea views. The chosen plants gave the garden a Mediterranean feel and created the mixture of sensations and scents that was so important to the client.
